Information available to Shasta County callers 24 hours/7 days a week including information for families/caregivers of children ages 0-to-5.
Bright Futures Program

Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), fatherhood activities and other services/activities increase parent resilience, parent knowledge of parenting and child development, and social connections for English and Spanish-speaking families in rural northeastern Shasta County.
Daddy’s Tool Bag
  • First 5 Shasta Direct Service
Distribution of 45-minute instructional Daddy’s Tool Bag DVD that features short, home improvement style videos on topics such as baby care, attachment, and the important and unique role father’s play in their infant’s development.
Family Literacy Activities/Book Distribution

A variety of family literacy activities offered throughout the year plus distribution of new children’s books at community activities and in a variety of community settings.
GAPS (Gateway Students Achieving with Parental Support)

Early literacy and Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) activities provided through parent liaison in-home visits. Plus kindergarten orientation for district families with 3-to-5 year old preschool and transitional kindergarten students.
Grasshopper Run, Hop and Ride

One-day event in Fall 2013 for parents/caregivers to join their 3-to-5 year old children in a non-competitive race and reading activity to celebrate National Book Month.
Leadership Skills

Enhancement of community outreach programs through leadership skills training, staff attendance at annual International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment, increased access to technology, and April 2014 Child Abuse Prevention Awareness month media campaign.
Raising a Reader Enhancement

Replacement books and bags to support the continuation of the successful Raising a Reader early literacy book bag rotation program for Shasta Head Start families.
READY! for School Shasta

Expansion of the READY! Program for pre-literacy, pre-numeracy, and essential skill development aimed at parents of children ages 0-to-5 in six school districts; addition of a professional development component.
Triple P

A variety of Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) activities that complement the evidence-based Triple P child behavior management program offered throughout Shasta County. Activities include parenting parties, tip sheet classes, TipPapers, and Triple P seminars addressing common child behavior concerns.
