Conformance status

First 5 Shasta is committed to ensuring that its website is accessible to people with disabilities. first5shasta.org partially conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. "Partially conforms" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. The non-conforming content is limited to third-party embedded content and document files that are outside our direct control, as described in the Known Limitations section below. All content that is within our control has been audited against WCAG 2.1 AA and remediated to meet the standard.

Measures taken to support accessibility

First 5 Shasta has taken the following measures to ensure accessibility of first5shasta.org:

  • Conducted a comprehensive WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility audit in April 2026, covering automated scanning and manual testing across 19 page templates.
  • Remediated all identified accessibility issues within our control, including color contrast, keyboard navigation, focus visibility, missing accessible names, heading structure, and ARIA markup.
  • Re-tested the site in July 2026 following remediation to verify all fixes and confirm no regressions were introduced.
  • Published this accessibility statement to document our conformance status and provide a contact path for users who encounter barriers.

These include commission meeting agenda files, the First 5 Shasta Strategic Plan, the Pawter in the Water resource document, and the Week of the Young Child virtual calendar. We are evaluating these documents separately. If you need any of these documents in an alternative accessible format, please contact us using the information below.

Google Maps embeds

Three pages on this site include embedded Google Maps: 0-5 Playgrounds, Little Free Libraries, and Week of the Young Child. The map controls and tiles within these embeds contain accessibility issues that are generated by Google's embed code. These issues cannot be remediated by First 5 Shasta as we do not control the markup produced by Google Maps.

YouTube video embeds

Videos embedded from YouTube on the Resources, Funding, and Week of the Young Child pages contain accessibility issues within the YouTube player that are generated by YouTube's player code. These issues cannot be remediated by First 5 Shasta as we do not control the markup produced by the YouTube player.

External forms

Some links on this site lead to external forms hosted by Microsoft Forms (event registration) and other third-party providers. The accessibility of those forms is the responsibility of the respective providers. First 5 Shasta does not control the markup or behavior of externally hosted forms.

Donate button

The Donate button on this site links to a PayPal-hosted checkout page. The accessibility of that page is PayPal's responsibility. First 5 Shasta does not control the PayPal checkout interface.
