Category: Parents, Providers

Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Organizers: First 5 Shasta

Venue: First 5 Shasta | 393 Park Marina Circle, Redding, CA 96001

Price: $0

This 1‑hour Lunch & Learn, presented in collaboration with Postpartum Support International (PSI), provides an overview of Perinatal Mental Health Disorders (PMHDs) with a focus on the unique needs of families in Shasta County and other rural communities. Participants will explore the connection between PMHDs, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and the risk factors impacting perinatal mental health outcomes. The training will define PMHDs, core symptoms across the perinatal period, which includes the unique presentations of fathers and partners. Participants will learn evidence‑based treatment options and local and national resources available to support pregnant and postpartum individuals and families. Emphasis will be placed on increasing awareness, early identification, and culturally responsive support within rural systems of care.

About the presenter

Christina McCabe is a local doula and lactation counselor with extensive experience supporting over 100 families in Shasta County through trauma‑informed, family‑centered perinatal care. She is a social work student with a focus on supporting individuals and families impacted by perinatal mental health disorders (PMHDs) and substance use disorders (SUDs). Christina has volunteered with Postpartum Support International (PSI), supporting parents navigating PMHDs and SUDs through peer‑to‑peer programming. Currently, she serves on the California Chapter of PSI, where she is a member of the Underserved Communities Committee and the Training and Education Committee. She now provides specialized doula support to high‑risk and substance‑impacted perinatal clients in her community.
