Week of the Young Child
The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration of young children that takes place every April in Shasta County and in communities across the nation.Join Us for Week of the Young Child
Established in 1971 by the National Associate for the Education of Young Children, Week of the Young Child (WOYC) recognizes how the early years of childhood form a foundation for children’s success in life. New events and activities are available each year for children, families, and all community members to enjoy.
First 5 Shasta serves as the local facilitator of Shasta County’s Week of the Young Child. Each year it is our privilege to collaborate with local partners, businesses, and event and activity hosts to create a celebration focused on young children, ages 0-to-5, their families, and caregivers. When paper dolls handcrafted by local children appear in the Shasta County business window, all community members are alerted that the Week of the Young Child has arrived!
Week of the Young Child will be the week of April 11-18, 2026. Here’s how to get involved:
- Follow us on social media to stay up to date on all WOYC events
- Plan and host a local event or activity (and don't forget to submit it to the WOYC calendar)
- Apply for funding for your event. WOYC RFA opens January 6, 2026. More information coming soon!
