Event Description

Established in 1971 by the National Associate for the Education of Young Children, Week of the Young Child (WOYC) recognizes how the early years of childhood form a foundation for children’s success in life. New events and activities are available each year for children, families, and all community members to enjoy.

First 5 Shasta serves as the local facilitator of Shasta County’s Week of the Young Child. Each year it is our privilege to collaborate with local partners, businesses, and event and activity hosts to create a celebration focused on young children, ages 0-to-5, their families, and caregivers. When paper dolls handcrafted by local children appear in the Shasta County business window, all community members are alerted that the Week of the Young Child has arrived!

Week of the Young Child will be the week of April 1-8, 2023. Here’s how to get involved:

  • Create a local event or activity to submit in the WOYC calendar
  • Apply for funding for your event
  • Decorate paper dolls to have displayed at a local business
  • Adopt paper dolls crafted by local children to display at your business
